3-day jungle trek in Bukit Lawang
Two nights in the forest gives you two dawns with the gibbons, a day on trails few trekkers reach, and a waterfall swim before the river takes you home.

3-day trek itinerary
Tracking the great apes
Pick-up around 8am and into Gunung Leuser to search for orangutans and Thomas leaf monkeys. Lunch on the trail, then on to your first riverside camp for a swim and a multi-course dinner.
Into the primary rainforest
Breakfast at camp, then a longer day on routes away from the main trekking zone. Bigger trees, fewer people, and a better chance of shy wildlife. Your second night is at a new camp.
Waterfall and river
A short morning walk to a jungle waterfall for a swim, then tubing down the Bohorok River to the village.
Our favourite Bukit Lawang trek
Ask our guides which trek they'd choose and most say three days. The first day covers the classic orangutan areas; the second gets into proper primary forest where the canopy closes over your head; and two nights at camp means you're in the jungle at dusk and dawn twice, when it's loudest.

3-day trek questions
What's the difference between the 2 and 3-day trek?
The 3-day trek adds a second full day of walking on quieter routes, a second night at a different camp, and a jungle waterfall on the final morning. More time means more wildlife and fewer other groups.
How hard is the 3-day trek?
Similar daily effort to the 2-day trek (6–7 hours of walking), just for longer. Moderate fitness is enough.
Is drinking water provided?
Yes, along with all meals and fruit snacks. Bring a 1.5L bottle to refill.
